Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then hired by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her provocative questioning of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
